What this site is, and what it isn't.

Calgary Communities YYC reproduces, recombines and comments on public data about the City of Calgary's communities. The site is editorial in posture, free to read, and supported by advertising. There is no account system for public visitors.

Nothing on this site is professional advice. Crime totals, property assessments, school listings, transit stops and AI-generated insights are summaries of public data. They do not constitute legal, financial, real estate, safety or any other form of professional counsel. For decisions that depend on the precise state of the world — buying a home, choosing a school, evaluating personal safety in a neighbourhood — consult the authoritative source directly and a qualified professional. We make no warranty of fitness for any specific purpose.

Generative AI is experimental and may contain inaccuracies. AI insights are flagged as such on every community page, generated by a language model grounded in the same dataset shown on the page, and dated. They use cautious verbs by design (appears to, tends to, observed) — never categorical claims. Even so, the model can produce statements that are misleading, outdated, incomplete, or simply wrong. Treat every AI insight as a starting point, not a conclusion. Verify any fact that matters to you against the authoritative source — the City of Calgary, the Calgary Police Service, the relevant school board, or a qualified professional — before relying on it for a decision. We are not liable for outcomes resulting from reliance on AI-generated content.

We refresh data on a regular cadence and label every figure with its source and refresh date. Upstream feeds evolve and occasionally lag. If a figure on this site contradicts the authoritative source — the City of Calgary or the Calgary Police Service — the authoritative source wins. City of Calgary data is reproduced under the Open Government Licence — Calgary, with attribution and acknowledgement requirements respected on every figure. The editorial layer — writing, design, software — is copyright Calgary Communities YYC and may not be copied or republished without permission, except for fair-dealing purposes under Canadian copyright law.

Read it, link to it, screenshot a chart, quote a passage with attribution. Don't scrape it at a rate that burdens the server, don't repackage entire community pages as your own product, and don't use AI insights to make decisions you wouldn't make on the underlying City data alone.
